Who we are

RYP Academy is a junior golf academy in Edina, Minnesota, run by Rypstick Golf LLC. For anything on this page, contact Makel Mackbee, the academy director: makel@rypgolf.com, (612) 889-3595, 6529 Cecilia Circle, Edina, MN 55439.

What this website collects

Only what you send us in the scholarship application. This website has no accounts, no advertising, and no tracking or analytics cookies.

The scholarship application asks a parent or guardian for:

  • your name, your relationship to the athlete, your email and your mobile number
  • the athlete’s name and date of birth, and their school and grade if you choose to give them
  • the athlete’s scoring average, and their handicap index and recent tournaments if you choose to give them
  • the package and the level of assistance you are applying for, and anything you choose to tell us about your family’s situation
  • the athlete’s personal statement

How we use it

To decide the scholarship and to contact you about it. We do not sell it, share it for marketing, or use it for advertising. We do not use scholarship applications in research.

Who sees it

Applications go to Makel Mackbee, the academy director. He shares each one with the coaching board, who review it with him. We do not give applications to schools, golf associations, sponsors, donors or anyone else outside RYP Academy.

The application is stored in the academy’s database, hosted by Google Cloud in the United States. A full copy is also emailed to the academy director, so it is kept in the academy’s email as well.

How we protect it

The form sends your application over an encrypted connection. In our database, only the academy’s two owner accounts can open it; coach, staff and family accounts cannot. The emailed copy sits behind the sign-in of the academy’s email. No system is perfectly safe, so if you would rather we not keep your application, ask us and we will delete it.

How long we keep it

We keep an application as a record of the decision, and we do not delete applications on a schedule. Ask us to delete yours at any time and we will delete it from our database and from our email, and tell you when it is done.

Your choices

Email or call us to see what we hold about you and your athlete, to correct it, or to have it deleted. Before we share, change or delete an application, we confirm the request by replying to the email address or calling the mobile number on that application. We will reply within 30 days.

Children

The scholarship application is for a parent or guardian to complete and send. The personal statement is the athlete’s own words, but the parent or guardian is the one who sends it, and the form asks them to confirm that is who they are. We do not ask children to send us anything through this website themselves. If you believe a child has, tell us and we will delete it.

What your browser shares automatically

Like every website, ours receives your IP address and browser type when a page loads. Our hosting provider, Railway, uses them to deliver the page and keeps them in its request logs for a limited time. The typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, and a scholarship application is sent straight to Google Cloud, where our database is, so your browser also makes requests to Google. We do not use any of this to identify you.

The member portal and other sites

Signing up, booking and paying happen in the member portal, which shows its own terms and consents when you sign up. Payments there are handled by Stripe. Booking a call opens Calendly or Google Calendar. What you type there, such as your name and email, goes to the coach you book with. Those services, Parallax and The Golf Textbook have their own privacy policies.

If this page changes, we will update the date at the top.
